In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, in this episode I share a part of my journey through cancer – from the months preceding my diagnosis, to the time I first found the lump, and the aftermath that ensued.
The picture you see was taken just a few short weeks before my mastectomy. I decided to treat myself to a farewell photo shoot to honor the breasts that God gave me… the breasts that nurtured my babies, the breasts that were ultimately sacrificed in order to awaken me to the truth of who I am. I hid them in shame my whole life because they never fit my body. I criticized them relentlessly, and now it seems as though I wished them away. No regrets… now I know how to love all of my body. It’s my best friend on earth! It’s my subconscious mind. It is the home I live in, and it’s where I go within to find the stillness, wisdom, comfort & safety that is always there waiting for me.
There are points in the episode where you will hear me struggle to share some of the most painful moments. Until now, there were only 5 people on earth who have heard this story in this way. If you’re struggling with your health or have concerns that you haven’t addressed, please know none of this is meant to scare you or advise you in any way. This is one woman’s journey, and hopefully you will be inspired by the ultimate message: don’t wait until you’re dying to start living.
